John Veysey

Biography

John VeyseyDr. John Veysey is currently a Science Policy Analyst for the National Science Board of the National Science Foundation. He supports the Board in responding to Congressional directives, evaluating large awards and facilities, and in efforts to reduce the administrative burden on Federally supported researchers. Before joining the Board Office, John was Legislative Director for Congressman Daniel Lipinski, Ranking Member of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee's Subcommittee on Research. In addition to supervising policy operations, he advised the Congressman on science and technology, energy, environment, and education issues.

John graduated from Yale University in 1997 and worked developing advanced radar systems at MIT's Lincoln Laboratory before pursing his doctorate in physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. There he received the John Bardeen award for excellence in condensed matter physics, and his research in microbial genomics, carbonate geochemistry, fluid dynamics, and pattern formation was published in leading journals and covered by Nature and the New York Times. John transitioned from a microbiology post-doc to science policy through an AIP/AAAS Congressional Fellowship, which he served in the office of Senator Robert Menendez.
