Assistant Librarian / Photo Adminstrator - MD

Essential functions

The Niels Bohr Library & Archives, which is the repository for the American Institute of Physics, seeks an Assistant Librarian/Photo Administrator to be responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of the Emilio Segrè Visual Archives and the audio visual collection.  This position will provide the primary reference service to the photo collection, work with researchers and donors, catalog collections on the Web, insure the accuracy and promptness of fulfilling photo orders, monitor copyright and permissions, and promote and market the collection using social media.  The successful candidate will work with IT to improve access to the photo collection, supervise part-time assistants and student interns, and assist in the daily operations of the Niels Bohr Library as needed.

Qualifications

  • MLS degree (ALA approved) or related MA and experience with photo collections are required.
  • Knowledge of library automation, digital scanning procedures, copyright, dataset management, new digital formats and photo conservation needs are desired. 
  • Must be able to lift 40-pound boxes of library materials.
  • Knowledge of physics is not a requirement.
