Director, History Center — MDThe American Institute of Physics (AIP) seeks a Director for its Center for History of Physics, a well‑established institution of outstanding reputation. The Director will manage and extend AIP's history programs with a mission to preserve and make known the history of modern physics and allied sciences (astronomy, geophysics, etc.) and their role in society. The Director hires and manages staff, designs projects, and helps to raise funds for historical research and educational projects and programs, including oral history interviewing and other preservation of historical source materials, and the creation and presentation of materials for students and the public. AIP encourages the Director to conduct independent historical research resulting in scholarly publications and talks, and will consider part‑time teaching arrangements with nearby universities. The Director works closely with AIP’s Niels Bohr Library & Archives, particularly in the preservation of historical source materials, manages and edits History Center publications, including its extensive Website at and its Newsletter. Applicants must have a PhD in either history or physical science and a record of scholarly publication in history of physical science, as well as the ability to supervise staff and independently design and administer projects. Experience in the following is desirable: oral history, editing including internet publication, public education, grant‑writing and development work.
