Manager for SPS/ΣΠΣ Membership and Leadership

Location: College Park, MD

The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is seeking a Manager for Society of Physics Students/Sigma Pi Sigma (SPS/ΣΠΣ)  Membership and Leadership to oversee the membership management of SPS and all aspects of governance and leadership in the two societies. He/she will work in conjunction with membership and fulfillment services to insure prompt service to society members; he/she will be responsible for communication with the SPS and ΣΠΣ Chapter Leadership as well as fulfill responsibilities relating to student leadership development, society growth and relationships with AIP Member Societies.  He/she will assist the Director with student projects and programs and will oversee meetings of the SPS National Council.  He/she will work in collaboration with the Director and the Chief Development Officer, to initiate and implement effective development efforts for AIP student services.  In addition, he/she will assist with programs, service events and outreach projects, membership expansion, and implement and develop projects that address the undergraduate physics experience, including evaluation, improvement and development of career resources for physics bachelor’s degree recipients.  The incumbent must have the ability to build and improve relationships with the AIP member societies and other professional organizations relevant to the SPS/ΣΠΣ members. The successful candidate will also supervise and evaluate the responsibilities of the Membership Specialist.

Qualifications

  • A graduate degree in Physics or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education is preferred. 
  • Two years of relevant work experience with a background in physics or physical science and/or physical science education, management experience (supervisory and budgetary or programmatic), and a familiarity with the physics community at various levels is desired. 
  • He/she must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to understand and manage database systems.
  • A demonstrated interest in physics education and service work within the physics community is required. 
  • Must be able to work as a team player and have the ability to travel as needed.
