News Editor / Web Content Specialist - Inside Science - MD

Essential functions

The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is seeking a News Editor / Web Content Specialist who will act as a part of a team of science writers, editors, and content producers for the Inside Science program in the News and Media Services (NMS) division. The successful candidate will oversee and execute overall web and social-media content production for Inside Science (InsideScience.org). She/he will create, edit, and collaborate on the production of a broad range of news and information content, and coordinate digital content to support Inside Science news and activities; as well as design and implement web and social media strategy for Inside Science news products, including Inside Science News Service, Inside Science TV, Inside Science Minds, and Inside Science Currents.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in journalism or related fields with demonstrated interest in science; or in science with relevant journalism experience as well as at least 3-5 years of professional experience in social media and web content production for a news organization website is desired.
  • Knowledge of AP style is essential.
  • Must have strong knowledge of technology needed to perform the requirements of the position, including Drupal, HTML/XHTML, CSS, and other web standards.
  • He/she must have newswriting and editing experience, and the ability to work onsite with the team. 
  • Excellent writing skills, communications skills, news sense and interest in science are important components of the job.
  • Proficiency in all relevant tools & software necessary to achieve above-stated goals is required.
  • Must be able to travel on business as needed.
