GovernanceAIP is a 501(c)(3) membership corporation of ten physical science and astronomy societies with an annual budget exceeding $74M and serving a combined membership of more than 125,000 scientists, engineers and students. General control is exercised by a 40-member Governing Board, 37 of whom are appointed by the Member Societies apportioned according to the size of their memberships. Operations are overseen by a smaller Executive Committee of Member Society representatives, Governing Board Chair, Secretary, and Executive Director. AIP's confederate structure is unique among scientific organizations and has given physicists an unusual ability to coordinate their goals and exert influence. Organizational Information
