Entering the NIST Campus – Use the Main Entrance

Attendees must check in at security upon arrival. (Trailer is to the right of the front gate. Security personnel will have a list of attendees, that they will cross-check at arrival and check I.D.s.

All attendees must show government issued I.D. Non-citizens without a state driver’s license must show passport.

NIST needs to know in advance who is not a U.S. citizen. Non-citizens are welcome, but pre-registration is a requirement.

Guests arriving on the NIST shuttle coming from the hotel or on the HILTON shuttle will not have to enter the trailer. Security will board the bus. Guests arriving on the regular NIST metro shuttle, must enter the security trailer.

Guests driving personal cars, must enter the security trailer, get a gate pass and then proceed to the building. There will be directional signage.

The conference badge will be given out at the registration desk and will also serve as guest visitor badge.

Registrants returning for Tuesday’s sessions may show conference badge and ID at the gate on to re-enter the campus. There is no need to stop at security trailer again, unless conference badge is lost.

Cameras ARE permitted on the laboratory tours.

From northbound I-270 take Exit 10, Route 117 West, Clopper Road. Bear right at the first light onto Clopper Road/West Diamond Avenue. At the next light, turn left onto the NIST grounds.

From southbound I-270 take Exit 11, Route 124, Montgomery Village Avenue/Quince Orchard Road. Bear right at the first light onto Route 124 West, Quince Orchard Road. After you merge onto Rt. 124, Quince Orchard Road, turn left at the second light onto Route 117, West Diamond Avenue. Turn right at the first light onto NIST grounds.

Reminder: Official visitors must present photo identification upon arrival. Visitors can access the Gaithersburg campus from the main gate at W. Diamond Ave. and Bureau Drive only. Visitors must wear a visitor badge at all times while on the NIST campus. See the Security Information for more details.

SHUTTLE TO NIST FROM HOTEL
There will be shuttles running from the Hilton Gaithersburg Hotel to the NIST Campus for Industrial Physics Forum attendees.

SHUTTLE BETWEEN HOTEL AND METRO
The Hilton Gaithersburg hotel offers shuttle service to/from the Shady Grove Metro Station upon request. Please call 301-977-8900.

SHUTTLE TO NIST FROM METRO
A NIST shuttle service runs between the Shady Grove Metro Station (the east side "Kiss & Ride" area) and NIST on the quarter hour and three-quarter hour from 8:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. The shuttle returns to the station from NIST on the hour and half-hour from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This shuttle is for NIST employees and visitors. Conference attendees are permitted to take this shuttle. If you require transportation outside of these times, taxis are available at the Metro station.

  • Follow the Dulles Access Road to Bethesda/Baltimore entrance ramp to 495
  • Take 495 (left lane exit) to 270 North
  • Take Exit #10 toward Clopper Road (MD 117) and Quince Orchard Rd (MD 124)
  • At the first light turn right onto Clopper Road.

For NIST main campus:

  • At next stop light (Bureau Dr.) turn left

For NIST North:

  • At next stop light (Bureau Dr.) turn right, proceed 1 block, then right into building complex.
  • Take 195 West
  • Take 95 South Exit #4B toward Washington
  • Take 495 West Exit #27-25 toward College Park/Silver Spring
  • Take 270 North Exit #35 toward Frederick
  • Take 270 Local North toward Montrose Road
  • Take Exit #10 toward Clopper Road (MD 117) and Quince Orchard Rd (MD 124)
  • At the first light turn right onto Clopper Road.

For NIST main campus:

  • At next stop light (Bureau Dr.) turn left

For NIST North:

  • At next stop light (Bureau Dr.) turn right, proceed 1 block, then right into building complex.
  • Exit National Airport heading north on the George Washington (GW) Parkway toward Maryland
  • Take the GW Parkway to 495 North toward Maryland
  • Take 495 (left lane exit) to 270 North
  • Take Exit #10 toward Clopper Road (MD 117) and Quince Orchard Rd (MD 124)
  • At the first light turn right onto Clopper Road

For NIST main campus:

  • At next stop light (Bureau Dr.) turn left

For NIST North:
