David de Jager

David DeJagerDavid de Jager is Senior Consultant Energy and Climate Strategies at Ecofys. His expertise covers a wide range of topics related to the implementation of greenhouse gas emission reduction and renewable energy technologies. De Jager was one of the pioneers in assessing the abatement opportunities for non-CO2 greenhouse gas emissions (methane, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated gases) and was involved in major studies on climate change abatement on the European and global level. His work on renewable energy encompasses technology assessment, policy design and evaluation, and strategic corporate consultancy.

One of his current larger tasks is consulting the board of Econcern in developing large-scale offshore energy supply systems, according to the POSEIDON vision. By offering space, abundant energy resources, and the opportunity for geological sequestration of carbon dioxide, the seas offer a huge opportunity to meet the world's growing energy demand in a sustainable way. The POSEIDON system vision is a seaway to harvest these energy resources and to create a sustainable energy supply system.

De Jager studied Experimental Physics with a specialisation in Surface Science at the Utrecht University in The Netherlands. As initiator and manager of the predecessor of the current Energy Strategy cluster of Ecofys, De Jager contributed to the growth and internationalisation of this field. From 2003 to 2005 he was assigned to the Technical Support Unit of Working Group 3 of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). As such he contributed to the scoping of IPCC’s Fourth Assessment Report, and was as process manager, editor and coordinating lead author responsible for WG3’s contribution to the IPCC/TEAP Special Report on Safeguarding the Ozone Layer and the Global Climate System.

Established in 1984, Ecofys specialises in energy saving and renewable energy solutions. As part of the Econcern group, Ecofys offers research and consultancy services as well as product development. Over the years Ecofys has conducted extensive research and completed projects for many energy companies, housing corporations, building companies, international and local authorities, and energy consumers around the world. With more than 325 employees in twelve countries, we're one of the largest consultancy firms in sustainable energy and climate policy. The Econcern holding originated from Ecofys and currently consists of Ecofys, Ecostream, Evelop and Ecoventures. Econcern, with a 2007 budgeted revenue of 500 million euro, invests in and develops sustainable energy projects around the globe, including on- and offshore wind energy, solar energy, and bio-energy projects.
