2010 Prize for Industrial Applications of Physics
The Prize for Industrial Applications of Physics was established
in 1977 by the American Institute of Physics to publicize the value
of physics research in industry, to encourage physics research in
industry, to enhance students' awareness of the role of physics
in industrial research.
The prize, which is awarded biennially on behalf of the Corporate
Associates of AIP consists of $10,000, an allowance for travel to
receive the prize, and a certificate citing the contributions made
by the recipient or recipients.

Rules and eligibility
All nominations should include the nominee's vita, letters of nomination,
work for which cited, publications, and patents, if any. Documentation
should specify the significance of commercialization. Nomination
packages should not exceed 15 pages total.
Although nominees need not now be working in U.S. industry, the
contribution for which they are cited must have been made while
employed in U.S. industry. The contribution may be a product, a
process, or a tool enabling practical application. Actual benefit
to the employer is a significant criterion.
The prize is intended primarily to recognize the contribution of
an individual but can be shared by more than one person where circumstances
warrant. The application of the contribution must have resulted
in a significant industrial development within ten years prior to
the award.
Any nominations submitted to the committee will be considered during
the next two cycles. Updated paperwork would be useful.
Selection of candidates
An Award Committee consists of five members and is constituted
separately for each successive award. Members are designated by
the Corporate Associates Advisory Committee. The Chair of the Corporate
Associates Advisory Committee serves also as Chair of the Award
Committee. The Executive Director of AIP serves as an ex officio
member of the Award Committee.
Presentation of the Award
The Prize will be presented at an upcoming AIP Member Society Meeting.
