Stardust

Comet Dust Captured by NASA Probe Could Give Astronomers Clues to Early Solar System

November 1, 2003

Stardust, a NASA spacecraft launched in 1999, is on a path to intercept the comet Wild 2 in early 2004. It will fly through the tail of the comet and capture some of its dust, to return it to earth in 2006. In the samples, astronomers hope to find clues on the origins of the solar system -- and possibly of life on our planet.
