Urologists Can Now Treat Disease with Vaccine

An innovative drug called Provenge immunizes patients from prostate cancer. The vaccine targets a protein antigen that grows on prostate cancer cells. Urologists siphon out immune cells from the patient's blood and couple them with a bio-engineered substance that teaches them how to recognize the antigen. A few days later, the patient gets an IV infusion of the modified immune cells that attack cancer cells.
