Computer Engineers Invent Shopping Cart that Totals Up Your Check

July 1, 2003

A new grocery cart comes with a tabloid PC and a barcode reader to simplify shopping. Customers scan products as they pick them up, and the cart keeps a running total of their purchases. The device can also place your order to the deli counter or bakery, and thanks to wireless technology, it can navigate you to the right aisle to find the product you are looking for. At check-out, the cart allows you to avoid lines by paying at a pay station instead.
