Ophthalmologist Implants New Type of Artificial Cornea

July 1, 2003

An ophthalmologist at Emory University in Atlanta is the first eye surgeon in the U.S. to use a new artificial cornea. Surrounding tissue grows into the ring forming a water-tight seal and making the prosthetic mesh with the eye better than other artificial implants, reducing the risk of rejection.
