Mechanical Engineers Create Clotting Mineral for Wounds
April 1, 2003
Engineers have developed a mineral that helps quickly clot a wound. The mineral has sponge-like holes, which allow the passage of water but not of larger blood elements. Cells such as platelets stay behind, forming a clot. Tests have shown the mineral -- marketed under the name of QuikClot -- to be so effective that the FDA has sped up the procedures for its approval.
