Dermatologists Use Tissue Engineering to Grow Human-Based Collagen

Collagen is a protein found in bone, skin, and cartilage. It's essential for skin strength. The FDA has now approved the first human collagen products. They avoid the problems of traditional collagen, which are made from animals and can cause an allergic reaction during treatments. Dermatologists inject collagen just below the skin's surface. The substances act like a framework, filling in unwanted lines and adding definition where needed. The effects last for three to six months after treatment.
