Crowning Moment

Dentists Use Computer Technology to Create Perfect Crown

December 1, 2003

Dentists are now using software technology to find the perfect fitting crown. First, the dentist prepares the tooth. Then, a digital camera takes a picture. The picture is scanned into a computer and the software can display the picture as a 3D image. The dentist can then manipulate the image to design a new crown. Once the crown is designed, a ceramic block is placed in the machine and the new crown is sculpted.
