Computer Scientists Help Improve Cell Phone Service in Rural Areas

Cell phone companies are now using a new wireless communication system called software radio to help improve cell phone strength in rural areas. Software radio replaces cell tower base stations that route calls back and forth with a single desktop computer. The system could also help large cities where too many calls can jam up cell phone lines.
