Last week’s approval by the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee of a reauthorization of the America COMPETES Act was fully expected.  Expected too – with only minor exception – were the straight party line recorded votes on unsuccessful amendments to the bill and its final passage sending it to the House floor.

The Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) of the Executive Office of the President has issued two statements this week expressing concern about FY 2016 House Republican spending plans.  Among his concerns are funding reductions that could result in “thousands fewer scientific and medical research awards and grants” when compared to President Obama’s budget request.

The full House Appropriations Committee approved its FY 2016 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Bill yesterday morning.  The House is scheduled to consider this bill next week.
