Letters have circulated on Capitol Hill urging senators and representatives to demonstrate their support for increased budgets for the DOE Office of Science and the National Science Foundation. Signing these letters to House and Senate appropriators is a well-recognized way of showing such support. Four letters have been submitted: 68 senators signed a letter in support of the Office of Science and 44 senators signed a letter for the NSF. In the House, 87 representatives signed a letter for the Office of Science, and 135 representatives signed a letter supporting the National Science Foundation.

The Administration requested FY 2009 budgets of $4,722.0 million for the Office of Science, and $6,854.1 million for the National Science Foundation.

If your senators or representative signed one of these letters it is appropriate to send them a brief thank you note. Guidance on writing to a Member of Congress can be found at here.
