Notes
Much of the strength of the physics department at the University of Colorado at Boulder comes from JILA, which is an institute that the department established in partnership with the National Bureau of Standards (now National Institute of Standards and Technology) in 1962. JILA initially stood for Joint Institute for Laboratory Astrophysics, but the name was officially changed to simply "JILA" in 1995.
