History of the International Polymode Program

The International Polymode Program was a bilateral US-USSR project to study mesoscale dynamics in the ocean to improve understanding of the role of eddy processes on scales of 50 to 500 kilometers. Robert Heinmiller, a staff member at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was executive manager of the project.

Scope and Contents of Collection

Records assembled by Heinmiller include research and funding proposals to establish the Polymode program, planning information, correspondence, meeting minutes, and other administrative material. There are also scientific reports and data collected during the ship cruises.
