Historical Note

The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is a not-for-profit membership corporation chartered in New York State in 1931 for the purpose of promoting the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics and its application to human welfare. Its members are leading societies in the fields of physics and astronomy, and its activities include providing services to its member societies in publishing, finance, and education.

Scope and Contents of Collection

The collection includes files from the meetings of the 75th Anniversary Committee, including meeting agendas and minutes; copies of historical documents gathered for the celebration; programs from related events; exhibit materials; and articles published in honor of the anniversary. The collection also contains copies of video interviews with past and current executives of the AIP and member societies, past and current members of the AIP Governing Board, as well as representatives from the Society of Physics Students. Transcripts of the interviews are available in the collection.

Organized into three series:

Each series is arranged chronologically.
