This professional society of teachers of physics in colleges, universities, and secondary schools, was established in 1930 to advance the teaching of physics and further the appreciation of the role of physics in society and culture. It was a founding Member Society of the American Institute of Physics. Grant was a physicist and professor at Dennison University in Ohio.

Scope and Contents of Collection

This collection contains correspondence, memoranda, meeting minutes, and personnel records relating to Roderick Grant’s tenure as Executive Secretary of the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT). Correspondence constitutes the bulk of the material, and deals extensively with publication issues surrounding the American Journal of Physics and other AAPT titles. Also included are other records documenting various boards and councils within AAPT. Documentation spans from 1968 through 1991, although the bulk of the material ranges from 1977 through 1983.
