Those seeking related materials should search under these terms. Biographical NoteIrwin Roman was an American geophysicist, educator, and researcher in seismic and magnetic prospecting. Roman received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Chicago in 1920. He was the assistant professor of math and physics, Michigan College of Mining and Technology from 1931 until 1935 when he joined the U.S. Bureau of Mines and U.S. Geological Survey as senior geophysicist, where he remained until his retirement. Irwin Roman was the father of astronomer and former NASA Chief of Astronomy, Nancy Grace Roman. Scope and Contents of CollectionThe collection includes a notebook of physics experiments from Washington University, notebook of geophysical data, biographical material, and an undated manuscript titled "History of Geophysical Exploration."
