A
year ago the AIP History Center awarded a $10,000 matching grant to the
University of California_Irvine to process the papers of Nobel laureate
Frederick Reines. The cataloging record and finding aid for the collection
are now available online www.lib.uci.edu/libraries/collections/special/faccolletions3.html.
UCI Archivist
William Landis reports that the support enabled the UCI Libraries
to process and make accessible to researchers an important collection
in a very short amount of time... The exhibit based on the Frederick Reines
Papers [January-May 2000] that was funded in part by the AIP grant is
among the most successful and well-received of any the UCI Libraries has
ever mounted. As a testament to the importance of these papers and the
timeliness of AIPs grant to UCI, we have already been contacted
by a researcher with a research interest in Reines... a historian of science
from the Physics Department at the University of Vermont will be spending
a week with us in mid-April, working mainly on the early neutrino experiments
materials in the Reines Papers. For additional information, contact
