Well wishes on your new addition! Many challenges and responsibilities await you in the future. Here is some information that will help you along your journey.

Health Coverage

You can choose to add any new dependents to the following coverages:

  • Medical Insurance (Contribution Required)
  • Dental Insurance (Contribution Required)
    In addition, you can elect to participate in the following voluntary programs:
  • Voluntary Accident Insurance

Important Reminders

All benefit enrollments must be submitted within 30 days of the day your new child joins the family. If you fail to do so within 30 days, then you cannot cover your dependent until the next open enrollment period.

Your dependent must enroll in the same medical and dental plan that you have elected. After enrollment, you cannot change plans until AIP's open enrollment period.

Please take time to consider whether you want to change your beneficiary information on you life insurance or retirement plans.

You may want to increase your retirement contributions or enroll in our Supplemental Retirement Annuity now that you have a new addition to the family. Take time to analyze any changes in your retirement planning.

You will need to update your income tax withholding status.

Change your emergency contact information, if necessary.

Consult with Human Resources for details on disability and family leave programs.

If you plan to utilize AIP's Day Care Center, talk to the Day Care Director well in advance of your due date.

When does a dependent child lose eligibility?

Child is no longer classified as a dependent;
Child is eligible for group coverage from their employer;
Child reaches age 19 and is no longer attending school full time;
Child is between 19-28 and ceases to be a full time student;
Child who is a full time student reaches age 28;
Child who lives outside the U.S. or Canada;
Child is eligible under This Plan as an employee;
Child is a person who is in the military or like forces of any country or of any subdivision of a country.

When does coverage end?

If your child loses eligibility for age reasons then the medical and dental coverage continues until the end of the calendar year in which the event occurred.

For any other reason other than age, the child losses coverage at the end of the month of the event.

Options

For certain situations, your dependent child may be able to continue their coverage under the provisions of COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Reconciliation Act). See Human Resources for details.
