Special eventsIndustrial Physics Leadership SummitsSummits are invitation-only roundtable meetings where R&D leaders from AIP Corporate Associate member companies discuss the factors and trends that most affect their R&D enterprise. Participants identify areas of common concerns and discuss possibilities for collaboration. Policy issues, workforce challenges and changing R&D budgets are often central to the discussions. The Industrial Physics Leadership Summit III will be held on June 11, 2010 at the American Center for Physics in College Park, MD. Acting on a feedback from Summit II, we designed this summit to be contiguous with the biennial Physics Department Chairs Conference. As with past summits, this discussion will bring together industrial and government lab research leaders. In addition, we will be joined by representative physics department chairs, to address the theme: Fueling Future Innovation: Coupling Industry and Universities for Physics Research.
The goals are to:
The half-day Summit will begin with a private luncheon hosted by APS and AIP, followed by an afternoon discussion among invited senior technical leaders and physics department chairs. Summit participants are invited to join the Physics Department Chairs Conference reception and dinner to network with Summit participants and physics department chairs from across the US. A panel of Summit participants will report a summary of the discussion at the Chairs Conference on Saturday, June 12. Regional Networking ForumsAIP Industrial Outreach hosts regional networking forums—typically collocated at major scientific society meetings—to facilitate interactions among physicists working on or interested in industrial applications. Meeting registration is not required to participate. Each event features an invited speaker on a topic of interest to local industry, and a social event with ample time for networking. Forums often engage the future workforce by providing local students with a venue to present their research.
