New Developments at AIP

AIP Tier Assignments Unchanged for 2010 – In 2010, AIP will hold AIP tier assignments steady, once again allowing libraries to maintain their current designation. If you have questions regarding your AIP tier, please contact customer service at subs@aip.org.

AIP Conference Proceedings Moves to Tiered Pricing Schedule – To make AIP Conference Proceedings more affordable to a larger number of institutions, the series will move to a tiered pricing schedule in 2010. The rates that most institutions pay will actually decrease. Tier assignments will be the same as they are for AIP journal subscriptions.

Low Temperature Physics Moves to Tiered Pricing Schedule – Low Temperature Physics, the English translation of the journal Fizika Nizikh, also moves to a tiered pricing schedule in 2010. As with Conference Proceedings, the same AIP tiers will apply.

Journal of Physical and Chemical Reference Data Extends Backfile to 1972 – The online backfile for Journal of Physical and Chemical Reference Data now extends back to the first issue published in 1972.

Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy: Launched in 2009; Remains Free in 2010 – Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy is a new e-only journal, publishing peer-reviewed articles from a diverse range of fields such as geothermal energy, bioenergy, solar and wind power, energy storage, and transportation. Access to JRSE remains free in 2010.

Biomicrofluidics Remains Free in 2010 – Biomicrofluidics, an AIP online journal that rapidly disseminates novel microfluidic techniques with diagnostic, medical, biological, pharmaceutical, environmental, and chemical applications, will remain freely available in 2010.

APL: Organic Electronics and Photonics Remains Free in 2010 – AIP’s newest spotlight journal, APL: Organic Electronics and Photonics, remains free in 2010. APL:OEP includes the subset of articles from Applied Physics Letters that directly deals with organic electronics and photonics. Content is published online daily and collected into monthly e-only issues.

New Physics Today Digital Archive – AIP now offers a one-time payment option for the Physics Today Digital Archive, providing permanent access to Physics Today content older than five years, and going back to the first issue published in 1948. This complements AIP’s existing Digital Archive for journal content, also available via a perpetual access option.

SEG and EEGS offer discounts for digital library, research collections
The Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the Environmental and Engineering Geophysical Society are offering discounts and fixed pricing to institutions that make subscription commitments for three years by 31 December 2009. The SEG Digital Library is available at 10% off 2010 rates, and the SEG Research Collection and the EEGS Research Collection each are available at 5% off.

Also, SEG no longer is including The Leading Edge with subscriptions to Geophysics. Add The Leading Edge online to any Geophysics subscription: $40 for academic institutions, public libraries, and nonmember individuals; $200 for corporations and government agencies.

New Two Year College Rate Available from AAPT
For 2010, the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) is introducing a new lower subscription rate for two year colleges interested in subscribing to their publications – The Physics Teacher and the American Journal of Physics. The new rate is available to new and renewing subscribers, as long as the institution meets the definition of a two year college.

New Geological Society of America Combination Subscription
GSA no longer offers the Bulletin & Geology combination package. You can purchase each title separately or upgrade to the GSA All package, which includes GSA Bulletin, Geology, Geosphere, Lithosphere, and GSA Today.

PNAS Discontinues Print-Only Subscriptions
PNAS has removed the institutional print-only subscription option. All print-only subscribers who have not already specified their subscription preference for 2010 have been transitioned to online-only. If you would prefer an online + print subscription, please contact subs@aip.org.

Changes to IOP Publications

New Journals Available by Subscription, Added to Packages – Biofabrication, Journal of Semiconductors and Chinese Physics C move to a subscription model in 2010. All three will be added to IOPscience and Package Z. Chinese Physics C will be added to Package B.

Journal of Optics A: Pure and Applied Optics now Journal of Optics – Journal of Optics A: Pure and Applied Optics shortens its name to Journal of Optics. The new ISSNs are as follows: 2040-8978 (print), 2040-8986 (online).

Frequency Changes – Journal of Physics D increases from 24 to 50 issues. Plasma Sources Science and Technology increases from four to six issues. Prices for e-only subscriptions remain unchanged.

New IOP Open Access Journal – IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering is now freely available to all at http://www.conferenceseries.iop.org/mse.
