Melville, NY, 21 April 2008 - The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is pleased to announce that effective Volume 1, Issue 1 (2007), Biomicrofluidics will be indexed and abstracted in the range of Thomson Reuters databases, including Science Citation Index Expanded (SciSearch®), Biotechnology Citation Index®, Biological Abstracts, BIOSIS Previews, and, Journal Citation Reports/Science Edition. Biomicrofluidics (http://bmf.aip.org) is an electronic-only, open access journal that provides a novel forum for researchers from diverse fields, including engineering, physics, materials science, chemistry, and biology.
“In the relatively short time the model has existed, open access journals have struggled to gain notoriety, because of the time it takes for a new journal to be tracked by ISI, and for impact factors to become available,” said Hsueh-Chia Chang, Editor of Biomicrofluidics. “Although impact factors have their detractors, they remain an undeniably important factor in growing a journal.”
Thomson Reuters' editors use a number of tools for assessing the scholarly merit of a journal being evaluated for coverage. Among the criteria they have established are timeliness of publication, adherence to international editorial conventions, and the use of peer review and English language bibliographic information. They also examine the journal's editorial content and the international diversity of its authors and editors.
