Melville, New York, 27 May 2009 — The American Institute of Physics announced today that it has signed an agreement with Rightslink to provide page charge and reprint services to AIP and its publishing partners that participate in the service. The agreement enables publishers to provide a quick and easy way for authors and customers to order reprints, purchase published works, and manage charges processing in an efficient, online environment. Rightslink is a point-of-content licensing solution from Copyright Clearance Center that provides a full slate of e-commerce services.
"We are very excited about this new service, the enhanced functionality it offers, and the potential for increased efficiencies it presents – not just for AIP, but for our publishing partners, as well," said Lori Carlin, AIP's Director of Fulfillment and Marketing "We believe that automating the entire process will help us generate new revenue, improve customer satisfaction, and give us valuable insight into the buying habits of our customers."
The system allows publishers to provide links to authors throughout the manuscript processing schedule, taking the author directly into the order processing system. Authors are able to select the product and/or service they wish to purchase (eg. page or color charges, reprints, etc.) and pay online via credit card or request an invoice for offline payment. Reprint links can also be placed on the article pages via Scitation, increasing the visibility and availability of content published there.
"Rightslink represents a vast upgrade in the level of service we provide to our authors – and indeed to the research community at large – with the potential to increase the timeliness of payments specifically and revenue in general," adds Ms. Carlin. "The new service also offers opportunities to better market these services to authors – both corresponding authors as well as the other authors associated with each manuscript."
