Light Powered MEMS Rotor

A five micron wide resin structure, with a shape resembling a lawn sprinkler, rotates when illuminated by a laser beam. Tiny rotors like this one may someday power micromechanical systems (MEMS), or twist molecules to measure their mechanical properties.
