Waveguide for Slow Light

In this Harvard experiment, a column of atoms at a temperature
near absolute zero is made to be more or less dispersive (the index of
refraction of the atom cloud is varied) by tuning pump lasers.
When light from a probe laser enters the atomic medium, it is slowed and
focused.
