BEC Magnetometer
Current running through a wire, laser light, and an applied magnetic field
can be used to position an extended Bose Einstein condensate (BEC) of chilled atoms (the blue
lozenge) to sense magnetic properties, with high precision, in an underlying sample.
The inset picture shows how the BEC (profile indicated by the blue circle) is positioned by
changing the applied magnetic field.
