Ripping Fluids
Three responses as a cylinder slices through a viscoelastic fluid. (a) When the cylinder speed is slow (2.8 mm/sec); (b) quicker (9 mm/sec); and c) quickest (16 mm/sec). Increasingly the cylinder “rips” the fluid, which does not so quickly close up in the wake of the cylinder.
