Chilled Mirrors

Chilled mirror diagram

A mirror is coated on the plane side of a small mechanical resonator ("cavity"). A laser delivers light to the front of the mirror and, through a feedback mechnism, to the cavity, where changes in the thermal motion of the mirror can be monitored and partially counteracted.
