Neutrino Tomography of the Earth

Neutrino Tomography of the Earth

A proposed scheme uses detectors at three different locations on the Earth's surface to observe neutrinos coming from the decay of radioactive uranium and thorium. The measured neutrino energies and fluxes, and the known properties of the crustal plates underlying the detectors, can be used to map the density of the uranium and thorium deposits.
