ASTM International Selects AIP to Handle a Range of Publishing ServicesMELVILLE, NEW YORK, 29 August 2005 The American Institute of Physics (AIP) announced today that ASTM International has chosen AIP Publishing Services as the vendor for its journal and book production, and for the society’s online manuscript submission and peer review processes. Through its web-based Peer X-Press service, AIP will administer the review process for ASTM’s three journals, Geotechnical Testing Journal, Journal of Testing and Evaluation, and Journal of ASTM International. In addition, AIP will provide this service for the society’s manuals, monographs, data series, and technical publications. AIP will oversee the highly involved peer review process, in keeping with ASTM’s standards of excellence, from receipt of submitted manuscripts to pre-press production. A separate component of Peer X-Press will allow authors to submit manuscripts online, simply by uploading source files from their web browser. In addition, special tools give the Editors and editorial staff a number of capabilities for working with manuscripts and communicating with authors. AIP will provide production services, as well, for Journal of Testing and Evaluation, Geotechnical Testing Journal, Journal of ASTM International, and the ASTM book program. These services include the conversion of author files to XML, proofreading, delivering PDF proofs to authors, preparing corrected files for online and print publication, copyediting, page makeup, plus a host of other functions that contribute to an error-free, streamlined process. AIP will also incorporate clearly rendered graphics files, and provide XML data feeds to bibliographic database aggregators. “Placing all of ASTM’s journal and book production with one vendor, especially one with AIP’s proven track record for reliability, will greatly simplify the publication process, giving our authors and technical editors a single point of contact from manuscript submission through copyediting and composition,” said John Pace, ASTM’s Vice President of Publications and Marketing. ASTM International is one of the largest voluntary consensus standards development organizations in the world – a trusted source for technical standards for materials, products, systems, and services. Known for their high technical quality and market relevancy, ASTM International standards have an important role in the information infrastructure that guides design, manufacturing and trade in the global economy. AIP Publishing Services (www.aipservices.org) is a division of the American Institute of Physics (www.aip.org), a not-for-profit corporation chartered in 1931 to provide publishing and distribution services for scientific and technical societies. Its online publishing platform currently hosts more than 500,000 articles from more than 100 scholarly publications for 21 learned society publishers, in fields including physics, chemistry, geology, engineering, acoustics, and other sciences. AIP’s suite of publishing services also covers every aspect of journal production, with complete management oversight from receipt of authors’ manuscripts through print and online distribution. |
