AIP Conference Proceedings now available online

MELVILLE, NEW YORK, OCTOBER 12, 2001 The American Institute of Physics announces that its distinguished Conference Proceedings series is now available online (http://proceedings.aip.org), beginning with number 500 (January 2000). Proceedings volumes, now numbering close to 600, present the results of groundbreaking research from scientific meetings worldwide.

"With the placement of our Conference Proceedings online, we've taken another big step toward providing scientists with more of the leading-edge results they need in digital form," said Charles H. Doering, AIP's Manager of Conference Proceedings. Dr. Doering went on to say, "AIP has been at the forefront of electronic publishing since we mounted our first online journal, Applied Physics Letters, back in 1994. The addition of Conference Proceedings to our online platform makes our site an even more comprehensive resource for students and researchers."

Online access will allow users to enjoy many of the benefits of online publishing free of charge. They can browse tables of contents of online volumes and link to abstracts of articles. They can search for articles by topic, title, or author, and refine searches by including dates or selecting a portion of a bibliographic record. (Searches made in AIP's abstracts database cover articles back to 1975.) In addition, they'll be able to collect articles by clicking on those that interest them and storing them in a virtual filing cabinet.

Institutions that place a Standing Order for all Conference Proceedings will receive online access to the full text of every available online volume. Patrons at institutions not enrolled in the complete Standing Order plan can purchase individual articles and have them delivered immediately online.

For more than 30 years, AIP has published conference proceedings in the physical sciences from all over the world. AIP currently publishes about 55 volumes per year. In addition to Conference Proceedings, AIP publishes eight high-impact journals. AIP's Online Journal Publishing Service hosts more than 100 online publications, including journals from AIP, a number of AIP Member Societies, and other prestigious scientific and engineering societies.
