AIP Publishes 1,000th Conference Proceedings VolumeMELVILLE, NEW YORK, 4 June 2008 — AIP is pleased to announce the publication of AIP Conference Proceedings Volume 1000: Gamma Ray Bursts 2007. Edited by Mark Galassi, David Palmer, and Edward E. Fenimore, all of Los Alamos National Laboratory, this 1000th volume in the AIP Conference Proceedings series presents key findings in a field central to astrophysics. This milestone volume is now available online at http://link.aip.org/link/?apc/1000/1/htmltoc, and will be free for 30 days. “The publication of our 1,000th volume is proof of the enduring value of this prestigious series, which continues to be a valuable forum for researchers wishing to disseminate their findings to colleagues worldwide,” said Darlene Walters, AIP’s Senior Vice President for Publishing. “In addition, the rapid production cycle for proceedings volumes gives students and researchers fast access to new discoveries across a whole range of scientific disciplines.” For nearly 40 years now, AIP has published Conference Proceedings volumes in the physical sciences from conferences held all over the world. It wasn’t until the early 1980s, however, that the program released more than ten volumes in a single year. In 2008, AIP plans to publish approximately 100 new volumes, all of which will be available online. We now offer a variety of subscription options, allowing libraries to tailor their collections. AIP is currently in the process of digitizing the complete archive – more than 70,000 articles. “The research we publish is drawn from meetings held by the world’s leading professional and scientific organizations,” said Maya Flikop, Director of Special Publications and Proceedings. “Proceedings volumes preserve the continuity that’s lost when conference papers appear in various journals. Without these works, it would be difficult to find such timely and comprehensive treatments of individual fields.” AIP Conference Proceedings was begun in 1970 and delivers rapid publication of key scientific breakthroughs – research that is often available nowhere else. Published soon after they are presented, proceedings papers offer the scientific community its first access to leading-edge results. Published proceedings are valuable as topical status reports, providing quick access to information before it appears in the traditional journal literature. Our proceedings focus on the following areas, as well as related disciplines in the physical sciences: - Mathematical and Statistical Physics American Institute of Physics is a not-for-profit corporation chartered in 1931 to provide publishing and distribution services for scientific and technical societies. AIP is the publisher or co-publisher of 11 journals, two magazines, and the AIP Conference Proceedings series, many of which have the highest impact factors in their category. AIP's online publishing platform, Scitation, currently hosts more than 1,000,000 articles from more than 175 scholarly journals, as well as conference proceedings volumes and other publications of 25 learned society publishers.
