AIP reaches Co-Publishing Agreement with Prestigious Chinese Society

Melville, NY, October 1, 2010The American Institute of Physics (AIP) (aip.org) is pleased to announce the signing of a new partnership agreement. This latest arrangement establishes AIP as co-Publisher, with the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (CSTAM), of the new journal Theoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters (TAML). The journal will launch in January.

"There has literally been an explosion in the amount of high-quality research being published by Chinese scientists in recent years,” said Robert Harington, Publisher, AIP Partnerships. "We're gratified that by forming partnerships with societies such as CSTAM, that AIP can bring its extensive STM publishing experience to bear in service of this research. That means disseminating results more rapidly—and with greater online functionality—to more scientists and engineers worldwide.”

TAML will publish short, original articles in all areas of theoretical and applied mechanics, as well as in engineering-related fields, such as aerospace, energy, materials, and biomedical, mechanical, coastal, civil and hydraulic engineering. Two of the most influential scientists in international mechanics will serve as Co-Editors‒Professor Jiachun Li, Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Prof. Yonggang Huang, Northwestern University.

"We are very pleased to launch a new journal, jointly published by the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and the American Institute of Physics, a leading international publisher of physical science research,” said Prof. Li Jiachun, President of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and Editor-in-Chief of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters. "AIP's involvement will help to quickly establish the journal's quality and facilitate communications between Chinese scientists and the rest of the world.”

About AIP
The American Institute of Physics is a federation of 10 physical science societies representing more than 135,000 scientists, engineers, and educators and is one of the world's largest publishers of scientific information in physics. Offering full-solution publishing services for scientific societies and for similar organizations in science and engineering, AIP pursues innovation in electronic publishing of scholarly journals. AIP publishes 12 journals; two magazines, including its flagship publication Physics Today; and the AIP Conference Proceedings series. Its online publishing platform Scitation hosts nearly two million articles from more than 185 scholarly journals and other publications of 28 learned society publishers.

AboutCSTAM
The Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics is a non-governmental organization affiliated to the China Association of Science and Technology and is made up of 42 member institutions with a total of more than 20,000 members. CSTAM is the publisher of 17 periodicals, in addition to magazines, conference proceedings, and monographs, organizing more than 50 national and international conferences annually. Over the last 50 years, CSTAM has made significant contributions to the mechanics community, providing scientists with forums for discussion of major issues related to mechanics, promoting non-official academic cooperation, and publishing learned journals.
