AIP is the new online home for The Journal of the Earthquake Engineering Research InstituteAgreement Includes Composition and Online Services Melville, NY, September 1, 2001 - The American Institute of Physics (AIP) announced today that the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) has chosen AIP's Online Journal Publishing Service (OJPS) as the online platform to host its journal, Earthquake Spectra. The Online Journal Publishing Service enhances the value of the EERI publication by providing a number of powerful electronic features. These include:
"We're extremely happy to be hosting this prestigious EERI journal on our OJPS platform," said Darlene Walters, AIP's Vice President for Publishing. "They're a good fit with our existing content and will allow AIP to add authoritative new research to our ever-growing archive of scientific and engineering-related material. EERI articles will be an excellent complement to the ASCE and ASME publications already mounted on OJPS." "EARTHQUAKE SPECTRA online is an important step into the future for Earthquake Engineering and the membership of EERI," said Chris D. Poland, President of EERI. He emphasized, "The online edition supported on the OJPS platform offers significant new opportunities to quickly disseminate and retrieve articles pertinent to Earthquake Engineering and earthquake hazard mitigation worldwide." He pointed out that, "rapid search and retrieval capabilities provided by reference linking and the SPIN Database of AIP for a large number of associated journals is important for Institute members, because EERI serves a wide range of professions including civil, geotechnical, mechanical and structural engineering, geology, seismology, architecture, city planning, public officials, and social science." In addition to hosting the EERI journal online, AIP will also provide composition services for the 800 pages EERI will publish in print in 2002. These services include typesetting, complete SGML encoding, proofreading, production of digitized graphics, electronic page makeup, and other services that combine to produce well-formatted pages for this publication. The American Institute of Physics is a not-for-profit corporation chartered in 1931 to provide publishing and distribution services for scientific and technical societies. Its Online Journal Publishing Service currently hosts e-journals of The American Physical Society, AVS The Science and Technology Society, Acoustical Society of America, The Society of Rheology, Biomedical Engineering Society, American Association of Physicists in Medicine, American Association of Physics Teachers, American Society of Civil Engineers, the ASME International, The Electrochemical Society, and SPIE --- The International Society for Optical Engineering, as well as AIP's own publications.
