IOP Publishing now participating in AIP/APS Virtual JournalsMELVILLE, NY, 1 August 2007 - The papers from two prestigious scholarly journals published by IOP Publishing are now being incorporated into the AIP- and APS-sponsored series, Virtual Journals in Science and Technology. These publications are:
Abstracts from each journal can be found in the Virtual Journals without access restrictions. To view full-text articles, VJ users can follow the links to the articles in the source journals. Subscribers to Physica Scripta will thus have quick links to the journal's full-text articles; nonsubscribers can purchase the articles online. New Journal of Physics is an open access publication with no subscription fee, so all full-text articles are freely available. "The Virtual Journal series has become a highly valuable cross-publisher research tool, alerting practitioners in several fields to the breadth of research dispersed across the literature," said Tim Smith, Publisher for New Journal of Physics. "Contributing to the series helps the Institute of Physics and Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft support their shared missions to promote the advancement and dissemination of physics." Professor Roger Wäppling, Managing Editor of Physica Scripta, stated, "The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences is pleased to be contributing to the Virtual Journals and we hope that the addition of papers from Physica Scripta will make it easier for specialists in the fields covered by the VJ series to stay up to date with the important research published in our journal." AIP and APS currently publish Virtual Journal of Nanoscale Science and Technology, Virtual Journal of Biological Physics Research, Virtual Journal of Quantum Information, Virtual Journal of Ultrafast Science, and Virtual Journal of Applications of Superconductivity. Other Virtual Journals will be launched as warranted, focusing on new and developing fields that cut across a range of traditional publications. Seventeen publishers currently contribute source material to the Virtual Journals. Click here for a complete listing. AIP Acting Journal Publisher Mark Cassar said that, "The participation of these two prestigious journals brings new, vital research to the Virtual Journals series. Scientists and engineers worldwide will benefit from an even broader collection of research in this single resource." IOP Publishing is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to science communication. Every aspect of IOP's work is dedicated to promoting science and the scientist. IOP publishes a wide range of journals (including the Journal of Physics series), magazines (including Physics World) and a portfolio of community websites such as nanotechweb.org and optics.org. IOP Publishing is wholly owned by the Institute of Physics, a leading international body and learned society. As the publishing arm of the Institute, IOP directly contributes to the funding of its important charitable and educational activities. The American Institute of Physics is a not-for-profit corporation chartered in 1931 to provide publishing and distribution services for scientific and technical societies. AIP is the publisher or co-publisher of 11 journals and two magazines, many of which have the highest impact factors in their category, as well as the AIP Conference Proceedings series. AIP's online publishing platform, Scitation, currently hosts over one million articles from more than 140 scholarly publications of 20 learned society publishers. American Physical Society is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics. APS represents more than 42,000 physicists worldwide and is a leader in the creation of e-journals. It publishes leading international physics journals, including Physical Review A-E and Physical Review Letters, organizes major scientific meetings, and provides strong outreach programs in education and international and public affairs.
