The Society for Imaging Science and Technology Turns to AIP Publishing Services for Production and Online Hosting of JIST

MELVILLE, NEW YORK, 1 February 2006— The American Institute of Physics (AIP) announced that the Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) has chosen AIP’s Scitation platform to host its publication, Journal of Imaging Science and Technology (JIST). AIP will also provide journal production services for JIST.

Scitation is already the online home of Journal of Electronic Imaging, a co-publication of IS&T and SPIE – The International Society for Optical Engineering.

“We welcome the addition of JIST to Scitation, ” said Darlene Walters, Senior Vice President for Publishing for AIP. “Hosting this content on Scitation will benefit not only JIST subscribers, but the research community overall, making JIST content more accessible via Scitation’s robust linking and search capabilities.”

AIP will work closely with IS&T to design a website that is consistent with, and accurately reflects the society’s unique brand identity. A number of powerful product features will ensure that JIST remains a critical research tool for those in imaging science and related fields. The easy-to-navigate interface and powerful search engine of AIP’s Scitation platform will provide the journal’s subscribers with reference linking to IS&T journals, customized article collection, e-mail alerts, and browsing and searching by year, volume number, subject, and title.

Production services that AIP will deliver include the conversion of author files to XML, proofreading, delivering PDF proofs to authors, preparing corrected files for online and print publication, copyediting, page makeup, plus a host of other functions that contribute to an error-free, streamlined process. AIP will also incorporate clearly rendered graphics files, and provide XML data feeds to bibliographic database aggregators.

The Society for Imaging Science and Technology is an international non-profit organization whose goal is to keep members aware of the latest scientific and technological developments in the field of imaging, through conferences, journals and other publications. The society focuses on imaging in all its aspects, with particular emphasis on silver halide, digital printing, electronic imaging, photofinishing, image preservation, image assessment, pre-press technologies and hybrid imaging systems.

AIP Publishing Services (www.aipservices.org) is a division of the American Institute of Physics (www.aip.org), a not-for-profit corporation chartered in 1931 to provide publishing and distribution services for scientific and technical societies. Its Scitation publishing platform currently hosts more than 900,000 articles from more than 150 scholarly publications for 21 learned society publishers, in fields including physics, chemistry, geology, engineering, acoustics, and other sciences. AIP’s suite of publishing services also covers every aspect of journal production, with complete management oversight from receipt of authors’ manuscripts through print and online distribution.
