AIP Publishing Services to Relaunch and Rename its Online Hosting PlatformFor immediate release Melville, NY, October 17, 2003 - AIP Publishing Services will announce a relaunch of its online publishing services platform during Online Information at the Olympia Grand Hall in London on December 2, 2003 at the AIP Stand 49. The platform relaunch will take place in January 2004. AIP Executive Director Marc H. Brodsky and Director of Online Services Frank Perugini will also make public a new name for the service, which has been known since its launch in 1996 as the Online Journal Publishing System (OJPS). According to Perugini, "We believe the new name will better convey
the scope of our services. We develop and host online portals, proceedings
programs, and stores with rich e-commerce features, as well as journals.
The name will also indicate the real quality and strengths of our online
platform, which is recognized for the high level of support we provide
to scientific and engineering publishers--and which will see even more
enhancements in the relaunch." The service currently serves 8,700 unique institutional and individual subscriber accounts. It displays over 2 million tables of contents and abstracts and delivers 1 million full-text documents each month. AIP Publishing Services (www.aipservices.org) is a division of the American Institute of Physics (www.aip.org), a not-for-profit corporation chartered in 1931 to provide publishing and distribution services for scientific and technical societies. Its online publishing platform currently hosts 560,000 articles from 114 scholarly publications for 18 learned society publishers, in fields including physics, chemistry, geology, engineering, acoustics, and other sciences.
