RSC Now Contributes Content to the AIP/APS Virtual Journals

Melville, NY, 16 December 2008 — One of the world’s pre-eminent scientific publishers has joined the Virtual Journals in Science and Technology (VJ) series, sponsored by the American Institute of Physics and the American Physical Society. Articles from the prestigious publications of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) are now accessible at virtualjournals.org.

“We're delighted to collaborate with AIP and APS on their Virtual Journals in Science & Technology series,” said Dr. John Haynes, Editorial Director, RSC Publishing. “Virtual publications are a forward-looking solution, allowing readers to search the ever-growing body of scientific literature quickly and effectively. Adding RSC's high-impact journals to the list of prestigious titles included in the Virtual Journals will bring our research articles to an even more diverse readership than before.”

AIP and APS currently publish Virtual Journal of Nanoscale Science and Technology, Virtual Journal of Biological Physics Research, Virtual Journal of Quantum Information, Virtual Journal of Ultrafast Science, and Virtual Journal of Applications of Superconductivity. Other Virtual Journals will be launched as warranted, focusing on new and developing fields that cut across a range of traditional publications. Eighteen publishers currently contribute source material to the Virtual Journals from more than 75 publications.

“We’re very pleased that RSC is contributing to the Virtual Journals, and we’re certain that the addition of their publications will make it easier for specialists in the fields covered by the series to stay current with the top-flight research published by the Society, said Mark Cassar, AIP Publisher, Journals and Technical Publications. “With an increasing amount of scientific and technological development becoming interdisciplinary, the Virtual Journals series has become a highly valuable cross-publisher research tool.”

Abstracts from each RSC journal can be found in the Virtual Journals without access restrictions. To view full-text articles, VJ users can follow the links to the articles in the source journals. Subscribers to each journal will thus have quick links to the journal’s full-text articles. Nonsubscribers can purchase articles from RSC’s website.

American Institute of Physics is a not-for-profit corporation chartered in 1931 to provide publishing and distribution services for scientific and technical societies. AIP is the publisher or co-publisher of 11 journals, two magazines and the AIP Conference Proceedings series, many of which have the highest impact factors in their category. AIP’s online publishing platform, Scitation, currently hosts more than 1,000,000 articles from more than 170 scholarly publications of more than 25 scholarly publishers.

Royal Society of Chemistry is the largest organization in Europe for advancing the chemical sciences. Supported by a worldwide network of members and an international publishing business, RSC activities span education, conferences, science policy and the promotion of chemistry to the public. RSC Publishing is a not-for-profit publisher wholly owned by the Royal Society of Chemistry. Publishing activities date back to 1841 and today RSC publishes a wide range of journals, magazines, databases and books.
