American Institute of Physics to handle online sales of ASA StandardsMELVILLE, NY, January 7, 2002 The American Institute of Physics (AIP) announced today the availability of its new service for providing online sales of standards published by the Acoustical Society of America (ASA). ASA publishes standards in four broad areas: Acoustics; Mechanical Vibration and Shock; Bioacoustics; and Noise. Online sales of the ASA standards are transacted through AIPs e-commerce platform, which is based on Oracle Corporations e-commerce and financial system software. This system enables customers to quickly purchase PDF copies of ASA standards via credit card. Standards can be downloaded and viewed online, printed, or saved to disk. In addition to the actual sale of documents, the platform facilitates activities such as detailed sales reporting, discounts to ASA Society members, flexible pricing, marketing promotions, and free subsequent downloads for purchasers. "AIP looks forward to expanding our already productive and successful relationship with ASA," said Frank Perugini, AIPs Director of Online Services. "We consider the ASA standards an important addition to the family of online publications hosted by AIP. In addition, ASA customers can now access a state-of-the-art online platform and benefit from enhancements designed expressly for the scientific community." The platforms primary website for sales of ASA standards is the ASA Online Store (available from http://asa.aip.org). Customers interested in standards will be able to search for particular items using criteria that include keyword, standard category, and more. The ASA Store will enable a shopper to navigate the hierarchy of available standards using the existing standards section scheme (S1, S2, etc.), which is well-known to most users. The American Institute of Physics (http://www.aip.org) is a not-for-profit corporation chartered in 1931 to provide publishing and distribution services for scientific and technical societies; AIP also publishes eight of its own journals as well as conference proceedings in physics and related areas. AIP's Online Journal Publishing Service (http://ojps.aip.org) hosts more than 100 online publications, including journals from AIP, a number of AIP Member Societies, and other prestigious societies. Since its organization in 1929, the Acoustical Society of America has sought to serve the widespread interests of its members and the acoustics community in all branches of acoustics, both theoretical and applied. The Society is primarily a voluntary organization and attracts the interest, commitment, and service of a large number of professionals. Their contributions in the formation, guidance, administration, and development of the ASA are largely responsible for its world-wide preeminence in the field of acoustics. Media contact: |
