AIP UniPHY Wins 2009 PROSE Award

Revolutionary professional social networking site for scientists receives top honors in the eProducts category from the Association of American Publishers

Melville, NY, February 8, 2010 — The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is proud to announce that its pioneering professional social networking site, AIP UniPHY (aipuniphy.org), is the recipient of this year's PROSE Award in the eProduct category, Best in Physical Sciences & Mathematics. Selected by The Professional and Scholarly Publishing (PSP) Division of the Association of American Publishers, the PROSE Awards annually recognize the very best in professional and scholarly publishing.

"As part of our ongoing effort to deliver technologically innovative solutions for the physical science community, we felt a web-based platform that facilitated and accelerated the collaborative process would be beneficial," said John Haynes, AIP's VP, Publishing. "With 20,000 registered members since September and now this prestigious PROSE Award, we are starting to receive validation that AIP UniPHY has considerable and practical value for authors, editors, and researchers."

Developed in partnership with Collexis Holdings, Inc., a leading developer of semantic technology and knowledge discovery software, AIP UniPHY is a first-of-its-kind networking platform for physical scientists. The platform is pre-populated with 275,000 profiles of individual scientists based on their publication history. A researcher can discover the work each of these scientists has conducted and follow a web of connections, including co-authors and the co-authors' collaborators.

"It is very gratifying for Collexis that AIP UniPHY was recognized by the PROSE Award committee and that our Collexis Fingerprinting technology, which allows us to pre-populate a professional network with the author's publications, is being recognized as a valued-added resource," said Darrell W. Gunter, Collexis' EVP / CMO.

"We saw the promise AIP UniPHY held for a global research community, which was already striving to forge closer ties," said Tim Ingoldsby, AIP's Director of Strategic Initiatives. "But to be recognized in this manner by one's peers, especially in a year when the PROSE Awards received a record number of entries from more than 60 professional and scholarly publishers, is indeed a wonderful tribute."

Offering partnership solutions for scientific societies and for similar organizations in science and engineering, AIP is a leader in the field of electronic publishing of scholarly journals. AIP publishes 12 journals (some of which are the most highly cited in their respective fields), two magazines, including its flagship publication Physics Today; and the AIP Conference Proceedings series. Its online publishing platform Scitation hosts nearly two million articles from more than 185 scholarly journals and other publications of 28 learned society publishers.

About Collexis Holdings, Inc.
Collexis Holdings, Inc., a leading developer of semantic technology and knowledge discovery software is headquartered in Columbia, South Carolina (USA) with operations in Cologne, Germany and Valparaiso, Chile. Collexis now offers the world's first pre-populated scientific social network for life science researchers, www.biomedexperts.com. Collexis' proprietary technology builds conceptual profiles of text, called Fingerprints, from documents, Websites, emails and other digitized content and matches them with a comprehensive list of pre-defined "fingerprinted" concepts to make research results more relevant and efficient. This matching of concepts eliminates the ambiguity and lack of priority associated with word searches. The results are often described as "finding needles in many haystacks."

Through this novel approach, Collexis can build unique applications to search, index and aggregate information as well as prioritize, trend and predict data based on sources in multiple industries without the limitations of language or dialect. Collexis' current clients in the public, private and academic sectors include Johns Hopkins University; Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the University of California, San Francisco; the University of South Carolina; Erasmus University Library; Lockheed Martin; the World Health Organization; Wellcome Trust; the National Institutes of Health; and the U.S. Department of Defense.
