AIP UniPHY Wins 2009 PROSE AwardRevolutionary professional social networking site for scientists receives top honors in the eProducts category from the Association of American PublishersMelville, NY, February 8, 2010 — The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is proud to announce that its pioneering professional social networking site, AIP UniPHY (aipuniphy.org), is the recipient of this year's PROSE Award in the eProduct category, Best in Physical Sciences & Mathematics. Selected by The Professional and Scholarly Publishing (PSP) Division of the Association of American Publishers, the PROSE Awards annually recognize the very best in professional and scholarly publishing. "As part of our ongoing effort to deliver technologically innovative solutions for the physical science community, we felt a web-based platform that facilitated and accelerated the collaborative process would be beneficial," said John Haynes, AIP's VP, Publishing. "With 20,000 registered members since September and now this prestigious PROSE Award, we are starting to receive validation that AIP UniPHY has considerable and practical value for authors, editors, and researchers." Developed in partnership with Collexis Holdings, Inc., a leading developer of semantic technology and knowledge discovery software, AIP UniPHY is a first-of-its-kind networking platform for physical scientists. The platform is pre-populated with 275,000 profiles of individual scientists based on their publication history. A researcher can discover the work each of these scientists has conducted and follow a web of connections, including co-authors and the co-authors' collaborators. "It is very gratifying for Collexis that AIP UniPHY was recognized by the PROSE Award committee and that our Collexis Fingerprinting technology, which allows us to pre-populate a professional network with the author's publications, is being recognized as a valued-added resource," said Darrell W. Gunter, Collexis' EVP / CMO. "We saw the promise AIP UniPHY held for a global research community, which was already striving to forge closer ties," said Tim Ingoldsby, AIP's Director of Strategic Initiatives. "But to be recognized in this manner by one's peers, especially in a year when the PROSE Awards received a record number of entries from more than 60 professional and scholarly publishers, is indeed a wonderful tribute."
