Publication costs for APS journals between 1980 and
1999 (in inflation-adjusted year 2000 dollars) reflect both the editorial
costs (processing, reviewing, and editing articles) and production costs
(printing and mailing paper copies). All-electronic publication can
achieve savings in both areas. Shown are the cost per article received
(in blue, left axis), and the cost per article actually published (in
red, right axis).
