Production X-Press™ Facilitates Efficient Manuscript Tracking for Journal Publishers
Melville, NY, 6 February 2008 — AIP Publishing Services announced today the creation of Production X-Press™, a new online manuscript tracking service for its journal production clients. The service allows authors to submit manuscript corrections via the web, and provides publishers with an interactive dashboard view for tracking and processing manuscripts in the production queue.
The service provides publishers with immediate access to proofs and corrections to and from their authors, and the ability to communicate with authors via email. It provides access to the original proof, author corrections, and all subsequent proofs and corrections between AIP and the publisher. It also allows the publisher to electronically send proof corrections to AIP."Production X-Press™ is a virtual production manager that opens a window into the production process for publishers who use AIP's composition services," notes Carol Fleming, Director of Production Operations and Customer Services for AIP. "Production managers and editors can check the production status of any manuscript, eliminating the time-consuming phone calls and e-mail messages typically required in this process."
The service can be configured to provide either read-only or interactive access. Workflows are flexible and are customized for each publisher's unique production process.
Used in combination with AIP's Peer X-Press online peer review service, Production X-Press™ provides publishers with a fully online production process.
"The benefits of Production X-Press™ include reduced time to publication, and increased visibility into the production process," notes Jim Donohue, Senior Director, AIP Publishing Services. "In today's competitive publishing environment, editors and publishers are increasingly interested in having more control over the progress of their issues and individual manuscripts. Production X-Press™ is the hands-on solution we developed to help them achieve these types of objectives."
According to Fleming, "The ideal user would be a publisher who may not have the staff to closely track the production details of each paper in a journal, but who wants to stay on top of the schedule and the process. The service also facilitates e-first publishing, faster turnaround times, and dynamic issue building."
Production X-Press™ is the latest enhancement to the full suite of publishing services offered by AIP Publishing Services. Services include web-based manuscript submission and peer review (Peer X-Press); production services for journals, books, conference proceedings; online hosting (Scitation®); publication sales and marketing; membership and fulfillment services; and advertising and exhibition management services.
