NIST-JANAF Thermochemical Tables, 4th Edition
M. Chase
Monograph No. 9: 1998, 1952 pages, 2 volumes, hardcover, ISBN 1-56396-831-2
$195.00
This latest edition of the NIST-JANAF Thermochemical Tables gathers
in one resource new and meticulously revised key temperature-dependent
thermochemical properties including heat capacity, enthalpy, entropy,
Gibbs energy function, enthalpy of formation, Gibbs (free) energy of formation,
transition data, fusion data, vaporization data, sublimation data, and
the logarithm of the equilibrium constant of formation for over 47 elements
and their associated compounds. These 1800+ tables cover the crystal,
liquid, or ideal gas states for single and multi-phases of many inorganic
substances and organic substances with one or two carbon atoms. Each table:
- Critically evaluates data for each substance.
- Provides references upon which the table is based.
- Includes the dates of the last significant revision.
- Is set up for easy cross-referencing.
SPECTRAL DATA FOR HIGHLY IONIZED ATOMS: Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co,
Ni, Cu, Kr, and Mo
T. Shirai, J. Sugar, A. Musgrove, W.L. Wiese
Monograph No. 8: 2000, 632 pages, hardcover, ISBN 1-56396-934-3
$145.00
Readership: Fusion energy researchers, plasma and atomic
physicists, and astrophysicists.
These comprehensive spectroscopic data tables for the spectra of highly
ionized heavy atoms provide a valuable resource for researchers who need
detailed spectroscopic information on energy levels, wavelengths, ionization
energies, and oscillator strengths. Critically evaluated data for these
spectroscopic quantities, both observed and calculated, are tabulated
for the elements Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Kr, and Mo. The tables
include data for all stages of ionization from Ca-like through H-like
spectra, except for Kr and Mo which start at Ge-like and Rb-like, respectively.
Typically, several hundred transitions are covered for each spectrum.
The tables are arranged in order of decreasing wavelengths, and lines
belonging to the same multiplet are grouped together. Forbidden lines,
i.e., mainly magnetic dipole (M1) and electric quadrupole (E2) transitions
are also included and are identified as such. A unified finding list,
in which lines are ordered according to wavelengths, contains all the
tabulated transitions. Short reviews on the line identifications and wavelength
measurements are given for each stage of ionization. The general introduction
contains a discussion on the method of evaluation and some background
on the compilations.
Atomic Transition Probabilities of Carbon, Nitrogen, and Oxygen:
A Critical Data Compilation
W. L. Wiese, J. R. Fuhr, and T. M. Deters
Monograph No. 7: 1996, 532 pages, hardcover, ISBN 1-56396-602-6
$130.00
This critical compilation of atomic transition probabilities provides
a valuable resource for scientists and students of physics and chemistry
who need atomic spectroscopic information for three of the most common
elements: carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen. Atomic transition probabilities
have been critically compiled for approximately 13,000 lines of the three
elements, based on all available theoretical and experimental literature
sources. All stages of ionization are covered, and the data are presented
in separate tables for each element and ion. Separate listings are given
for allowed and forbidden transitions.
Heat Capacity of Liquids: Critical Review and Recommended Values

$240.00
This two-volume set is a comprehensive collection of evaluated heat capacities
of 1,624 pure substances in the liquid state, providing an extremely valuable
reference for use by chemists and chemical engineers. Full definitions
of pertinent quantities, units, and conversions, and a thorough description
of experimental techniques are included.
Atlas of Surface Structures
P. R. Watson, M. A. Van Hove, and K. Hermann
Monograph No. 5: 1994, 1250 pages, 2 volumes, hardcover, ISBN 1-56396-413-9
$145.00
Based on the NIST Surface Structure Database (SSD). All the information
needed to study the detailed, atomic scale structure of every known surface
structure identified from early 1970 through 1991, with complete determination
of atomic position with respect to the substrate lattice for 597 structures.
Two volumes: tabular information and computer-generated views of each
structure from above and from an angle.
Atlas of the Vacuum Ultraviolet Emission Spectrum of Molecular
Hydrogen
J.-Y. Roncin and F. Launay
Monograph No. 4: 1994, 520 pages, hardcover, ISBN 1-56396-339-6
$140.00
The atlas consists of a finding list of 12,265 emission lines, including
reference lines, extending from 78.06 to 171.35 nm. The body of the atlas
includes 165 sets of plates and tables covering 0.58 nm each. Each plate
consists of an enlarged picture of the spectrum where emission lines appear
in white on the dark background, and a corresponding microdensitometer
trace in which the strong lines are saturated while even very weak lines
show up. Each line is marked by a vertical tick below the trace. The corresponding
table includes for each line the wavelength, the wavenumber, the relative
peak intensity, and the line adjustment.
Vibrational and Electronic Energy Levels of Polyatomic Transient
Molecules
M. E. Jacox
Monograph No. 3: 1994, 461 pages, hardcover, ISBN 1-56396-316-7
$140.00
A critical evaluation and summary of the experimentally determined vibrational
fundamentals and electronic band origins of more than 1550 neutral and
ionic transient molecules possessing from three to sixteen atoms is presented.
Data are included for species containing the heavy elements. Although
the emphasis is on species with lifetimes too short for study using conventional
sampling techniques, there has been selective extension oft he compilation
to somewhat less reactive species such as OCIO, HNCO, H2O2, cis- and trans-HONO2
which have presented spectral evaluation problems and which are important
in a wide variety of environmental and industrial chemical systems. Radiative
lifetimes and the principal rotational constants are included. Observations
in the gas phase, in molecular beams, and in rare-gas and nitrogen matrices
are evaluated. The types of measurement surveyed include conventional
and laser-based absorption and emission techniques, laser absorption with
mass analysis and photoelectron spectroscopy.
Gas-Phase Tropospheric Chemistry of Organic Compounds
R. Atkinson
Monograph No. 2: 1994, 216 pages, hardcover, ISBN 1-56396-340-X

The gas-phase reactions of selected classes of organic compounds (alkanes,
alkenes [including isoprene and monoterpenes], alkynes, aromatic hydrocarbons
and oxygen-containing organic compounds and their degradation products)
under tropospheric conditions are reviewed and evaluated. The recommendations
of the most recent IUPAC evaluation are used for the C1 to C3 organic
